Lauki Halwa Recipe – Dudhi Halwa – Bottle Gourd Halwa

Lauki Halwa (Dudhi) which some people also call laudge, is a very simple and delicious recipe. Anyone can make it very easily even if you are trying it for the first time. We have usually seen parents forcing their kids to eat gourd as a vegetables because of its numerous health benefits. We have all gone through this and most of you would agree that we would not like it and would refuse to eat it. But today I will tell you how to make Lauki Halwa which you all will love.

How to make(gourd) Lauki Halwa

Lauki halwa can be made by 2 different recipes.

One way of making gourd halwa is by adding mawa in halwa. Firstly grated gourd is roasted in little ghee and after that some milk is added followed by mawa.

The other way of preparing gourd Lauki Halwa (Dudhi), is without using mava. In this recipe we either use ghee or cream instead of mawa.

It can be made very easily at home and is very tasty to eat.

Easy way to make (gourd) Lauki Halwa

Today I will share my special recipe with you on how to make Lauki Halwa easily at home. For this recipe, I will use cream (malai) instead of mava because there is no guarantee of purity of mawa we get from the market these days. You can also make mawa at home if you want.

  • Gourd – 500 grams
  • Sugar – little more than half a bowl
  • Cream of milk – a bowl
  • Full cream milk – 500 grams
  • Cashews – 10
  • Almonds – 10
  • Cardamom – 6-7
  • Saffron Leaf – 10 -12

(Gourd) Lauki Halwa Recipe

1.To make Lauki Halwa first peel off the gourd and wash it after peeling.

2. Cut the gourd from the middle and after cutting, remove the seeds which are in the middle. Remove them separately.

3. Now grate the gourd. Take the grated gourd by hand and squeeze all its water.

4. Now cut the cashew nuts and almonds into small pieces.

5. Grind cardamom into powder form. Take two spoons of hot milk in a separate bowl and add saffron leaves in the hot milk.

6. Now put a pan on the gas, put both the grated gourd and milk in it and heat it.

7. Stir it, when it comes to boil, turn the gas to medium flame.

8. Now allow it to boil slowly, in about 20-25 minutes all the milk of the gourd will dry up. Keep stirring the halwa occasionally.

9. When all the milk of the gourd turns thick, then add cream to it.

10. After adding the cream, turn the flame high and let it run for 4-5 minutes. Wait for the water to dry.

11. Now add sugar to it.

12. After adding sugar, stir it continuously on high flame until the sugar juice dries completely.

13. Now you add saffron milk, dry fruits and cardamom to it and turn off the gas.

14. Your (gourd halwa) Lauki Halwa is ready now. You can serve it with your meal or as a dessert.

15. Put this prepared halwa in the refrigerator.

16. Whenever you want, you can eat it as the taste of gourd halwa remains the same for 8 to 10 days.

Keep in mind-

  • While making (gourd) Lauki Halwa taste the gourd first. If the gourd is bitter, do not make the halwa using the bitter gourd otherwise it will taste bad.
  • If you want to mix mawa in gourd halwa then you can add mawa instead of cream.
